Just for Art Workshop #4

Wow! Josh has put together 4 successful photography workshops since Spring this year! They have all had their own twist or theme, and each one brings in new photographers. We have met and worked alongside at least 20 different photographers and I hope Josh plans on keeping these amazing events going because I know it is great to get out and create art just for arts sake. It is so relaxing and great to get in touch with our inner artists every once and a while. Check out some of our best photos from this past Sunday. The theme was modern day pinup.

p.s. Special thanks go out to our friend Jennifer Rand for the fantastic job she did on hair and make-up. Check out her site and hire her for professional hair and make-up! She does weddings :) JENNIFER'S WEBSITE

it's painful in an artistic kind of way

It is painful to be an artist, but that pain is what keeps me going. There is a little voice, a feeling, well... I don't know how to describe it. There is something inside of me that can't ever be satisfied. Every time I see a great photo I have taken, I can only be happy for a moment. A brief moment. It isn't long before I see imperfections or before I start criticizing how I can do it better next time. On the outside I get compliments, I get rewarded by the audiences that interact with the work I create. I think that reward is what fuels the fire. That little something inside of me will always be hungry for something else... something new, something different, something bolder, something louder. There is no end to that hunger. If that day were ever to come, the day that I felt I had reached the pinnacle of my talent, I could no longer be an artist. And I would be mistaken to ever feel that if I did. I hope that day never comes because secretly that insecurity that makes me an artist and pushes me to try harder is what brings me so much joy in my life. I love being an artist, even when it hurts.

Kelsey & Andy's engagement shoot

We took quite a trip walking around Portland with Kelsey and Andy for their engagement shoot last week. They brought along their adorable 4 month old English Bulldog "Oscar" and his little wrinkly legs got pretty tired along the way but he shook it off and kept going. He knew there was serious work to be done.

Kelsey and Andy are such a great couple. They are really sweet together and they have a great sense of humor that kept Josh and I laughing. They have quite a love story to tell. I wont do it justice but I will try my best to sum it up. They met in third grade and Andy couldn't stand Kelsey and visa versa. She was mean to him and he did his best to be mean right back. With time, the anger subsided and love began to grow... well Andy began to like Kelsey (as Kelsey clarified to me). Eventually they were friends and found themselves on somewhat of a date during an event at Rose Garden. Andy invited Kelsey on the conditions that she hold his hand. She agreed but jokingly said he would only get to hold her closed fist. (see slideshow for reenactment) And so it began... They fell in love and continue to laugh along the way as they plan their wedding coming up in a month. We can't wait to work with them again soon.

Melissa & Michael's wedding ~ 07.12.08

Melissa & Michael were married last weekend at St Patrick's Cathedral in NW Portland. After the ceremony everyone headed to the zoo for the reception. Yes, the Portland Zoo! How cool is that? The day was gorgeous and we enjoyed every minute from a walk around downtown, a beautiful cathedral, a golf cart ride around the zoo to the dancing all night long. Michael and Melissa definitely know how to throw a great party! We had a blast. Check out some of our favorites from the day along with a link to a slideshow with many more photos.
